This sheet commemorates the unveiling of the "Hambledon Stone" in 1908. From 1770 this was the centre of the cricketing world. It was where the laws developed that transformed a country pursuit into an international sport.
The stone in memory of the cricket played there was unveiled in September 1908. A match was played to mark the occasion featuring some of the best known cricketing names of the period.
The issue date coincides with a match featuring Test and 1st Class players. The centenary of return of cricket to Broadhalfpenny Down after a gap of 116 years.
