This limited editon smiler was issued for the 25th anniversary of India winning the Cricket World Cup. They beat the West Indies in the final at Lord in what was a defining moment for Indian cricket. Most certainly a "Big bang" in that context.
The label image is Srikkanth driving Andy Roberts for four on his way to his score of 38, the highest of the world cup final. A classic piece of cricket imagery itself.
On 25th June 2008 players from the winning team reunited at Lords' 25 years to the day of their historic victory. Each to be presented with a first day cover bearing this smiler.
The India media covered the stamp issue extensively.
