Artist Mike Bannard has captured a B 24 Liberator dropping a British SOE agent into enemy territory. Painted black to avoid detection these aircraft mainly undertook their secret missions on moonlit nights. Hence the link to the "Sky at Night" stamp issue. The front cover design depicts just such a mission over snow covered fields. On the rear are rare wartime photographs of the actual aircraft and the memorial that stands to the brave men who flew them. The cover also honours the men and women of the SOE and OSS deployed on highly dangerous covert missions.
